The laboratory for AI, Robotics and Automation (LARA) invites applications for a full-time postdoctoral research fellowship position at the University of California, Davis, Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.
This postdoc position focuses on the application of deep learning in traffic control and advanced driver assistance, specially in work zones and near collisions under low visibility conditions. The project includes object detection from point cloud data and multi-class classification based on RGB and infrared images. The ML component of this research aims to address fundamental/theoretical as well as applied aspects and aims to not only develop novel tools for traffic control and point cloud data processing but also push the state of the art in data-efficient and causal learning. The appointment is for two years with the possibility of extension to the third year based on performance.
Qualifications: Candidates must hold a PhD in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering or related fields with research and hands-on experience in machine learning. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience with vision and radar systems, and point-cloud data processing although this background is not necessary. Candidates must also have strong written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team and participate in guidance of graduate students and in preparing research proposals.
How to Apply:
Interested applicants should submit a cover letter describing research interests and experience, an up-to-date CV, and names and contact information of three references to: email@example.com
The position will remain open until filled.
LARA is a well-funded laboratory with close ties to industry, working towards industry 4.0 and the next generation of automation and robotic systems. In addition to fundamental and theoretical research, LARA is active in a diverse range of applications e.g., in automotive, industrial health monitoring, highway maintenance and construction, medicine and biomedical imaging.
